Course Description

Our upper-beginner German course (A2) is the natural next step after A1. It helps learners extend their vocabulary, strengthen their grasp of grammar, and handle a wider range of everyday and professional situations with greater independence and confidence.

Learning Objectives

  • Grow your word bank to 1 300 + words covering daily routines, health, travel, housing, celebrations, work tasks, and digital life.

  • Master essential A2 grammar:

    • Past tenses (Perfekt with haben & sein) and simple Imperfekt of common verbs.

    • Separable & inseparable prefix verbs, modal verbs in the past.

    • Comparative & superlative forms; adjective endings with definite, indefinite, and zero articles.

    • Two-way prepositions with dative/accusative; pronoun substitution (dar-, wo-, hin-, her-).

  • Hold longer conversationsdescribing plans, recounting past events, giving reasons & opinions, proposing solutions, and reacting politely.

  • Enhance listening & reading skills with short stories, announcements, easy news items, and audio from everyday contexts (e.g., doctor’s appointments, job interviews, travel information).

  • Write cohesive texts such as informal e-mails, brief reports, online reviews, invitations, and simple CVs, applying correct sentence connectors (weil, dass, obwohl, wenn).

By the end of A2 you will be able to

  1. Understand sentences and frequently-used expressions related to immediate relevance (e.g., very basic personal and family information, shopping, geography, employment).

  2. Communicate in routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics.

  3. Describe in simple terms aspects of your background, immediate environment, and matters in areas of immediate need.

  4. Sit for—and pass—the Goethe-Zertifikat A2 or ÖSD A2 with confidence.
