Course Description

Our B1 Intermediate German course moves you from limited interaction to independent communication in social, academic, and professional contexts.

  • Vocabulary Expansion to 2 500+ words covering news, society, environment, workplace, culture, and technology.

  • Grammar Focus

    • Full Präteritum of regular/irregular verbs; introduction to Plusquamperfekt.

    • Future tense (Futur I), passive voice (present & past).

    • Relative clauses, indirect questions, subjunctive II for polite requests & unreal situations.

    • Advanced word order (position of objects, adverbials, negation).

  • Communication Skills

    • Discuss opinions, give detailed descriptions, narrate cohesive stories.

    • Handle unexpected situations while travelling or working.

    • Participate in routine phone calls and meetings.

  • Listening & Reading

    • Radio excerpts, podcasts, simplified news, short literary texts.

  • Writing

    • Structured emails, complaint letters, blog posts, short summaries & essays (≈ 180 words).

  • Exam Preparation

    • Mock tests for Goethe-Zertifikat B1, telc Deutsch B1, or ÖSD B1 integrated throughout.

What do you need to start this course ?
  • Completed A2 Level or Equivalent

    • Certificate or placement-test proof of A2 proficiency (Goethe/ÖSD/telc A2).

    • Active vocabulary ≈ 1 300 words; comfortable with daily-life topics (health, travel, housing, work, digital habits).

  • Solid A2 Grammar Control

    • Confident with Perfekt, separable & inseparable prefix verbs, modal verbs in past, adjective endings, comparative/superlative, two-way prepositions.

    • Able to link clauses with weil, dass, wenn, obwohl and use basic Präteritum of sein, haben, werden.

  • Functional Communication Skills

    • Can describe routine activities, past events, and near-future plans.

    • Can handle common interactions (doctor visits, job enquiries, apartment rentals) with limited support.

  • Receptive & Productive Skills

    • Understand main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters.

    • Read short factual texts (ads, instructions, short articles).

    • Write connected sentences in informal emails, short reports, or reviews.

  • Practical Readiness

    • Commitment: ± 4 h class + 3 h self-study weekly.

    • Laptop/tablet, headset, stable internet (for online cohorts).
